Signs stating that an emergency order is in place to protect the threatened western chorus frog are posted at the site of a halted construction project in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada in April 2024. The federal decree was issued in 2021 to stop the construction of a road that passes through critical western chorus frog habitat, even though the project was nearing completion. In July 2023, the city announced that it planned to resume construction. Conservationists argue that although conservation measures were put in place (installation of a wildlife corridor, fencing and the relocation of frogs and eggs to the Montreal Biodome), more time needs to be allotted to assess the situation and plan for alternative solutions.
